Enjoyment! It exists. Here are things I believe I like:
IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion. Ridiculous name. I have a soft spot for companies that whiff of QVC territory thusly, and their shade range for color cosmetics is likewise endearingly suburban. This stuff is silicon-based and therefore performs very well as a base for sunscreen and makeup.
Bitters and seltzer. Any variety. Works at any establishment and no bartender refuses. I drink this when I don’t want to drink at work-related functions (which is more often than not).
Superiority Burger. “Which downtown” indeed. Delicious and reasonably priced. Feels safe, in the best way.
Clarins Lip Comfort Hydrating Oil in Honey. Not sticky, slightly pigmented, hydrating, doesn’t leach moisture. Counteracts the purplish-dead tinge my lips inevitably acquire in office air conditioning.
Rear-Foot Elevated Bulgarian Split Squats. Oddly enough. With a 35- or 40-lb. kettlebell. Typically I don’t like alternating movements but have needed to repair some weakness and imbalance, and the more I do them, the more I like them. They kind of hurt.
Trader Joe’s Green Tea Mochi. Medicinal.
La Baleine Coarse Sea Salt. Delightful and satisfying either in “three grains” or “massive pour” units.
As I am once again enslaved to the screen for the majority of my waking hours, here are a few books I like:
The Book of the Long Sun (Litany of the Long Sun, Epiphany of the Long Sun), Gene Wolfe. Reading now. Not as sublime as The Book of the New Sun but evinces his language, style, his unmistakeable perspective.
The Knight and The Wizard, Gene Wolfe. I love him. I love these. Purest joy.
Elect Mr. Robinson For A Better World, Donald Antrim. Speaking of things that made me laugh uncontrollably.
The American, Henry James. One walks through a door and returns with leaves in one’s hair, unaware where the time went and the world vanished to.
