The world, in all its moods and forms, amazes me, and in the throes of my appreciation, often I will mentally stash away the discontents of unobserved delight inside a line, a phrase, a lyric, and hold it tight in mind, steering whatever poor image I can trace off from my witness past hazards of distraction and dismay, yet with vicious frequency whatever tiny craft I might otherwise strive to rescue from time’s vortex is lost to the quotidian mayhem before I can pull it ashore into text, and then I wonder: where do my poems go when I do not write them down?
Subterranean: Under the tufaceous hilltop towns webbed through with whistling caverns, with the pigeons huddled up against the roof, nestled into the heart’s down close to the small guttering lungs.
Cryptogramatically: As different crossword clues across dozens of major papers, across a time scale of decades.
Augurically: Kneaded into a smile of grease nudging a portentous liver; or, inscribed in frantic fluidic gusts of murmuration over the river, during the blue hour.
Miscellaneously: Within the folder of the dreaded and poor-practice unclassifiable, coded in glyphs of smeared bird guts against pages of the field journal.
Cartographically: Within the reaches of an ur-, debated formation of the scrolling Nolli map, the faint percussive spurts that might, if tapped onto a pane of leaded glass, be decoded.
Revealingly: Each phrase is added to a roster that the wilderness will whisper to a mystic several hundred years from now, and she must decide which divinity is doing the talking, and in what language, and with what intent upon her soul.
Algeally: Encoded into algae patterns; when a crucial mineral is added upstream, they will bloom into the shades of green that, when combed and woven, will reveal the words.
Follicularly: On every hair I lose is engraved a single letter; over my life every line is left behind.
Harmonically: Far enough away from the planet there are stars that throb in distant resonance and with every unwritten word, one draws slightly nearer orbit.
